Garbage & Recycling |
Keeping the community clean and green is the role and responsibility of both the village and it's residents. Included in every residents water bill are fees for garbage collection that includes both waste removal as well as consumer waste recycling. In addition to this service residents are encouraged to be green by properly disposing of other items, such as batteries and old electronics, using any of the free options that are available to residents of McLean County. |

Recycling Collection
NEW for 2019: Area Disposal Service has requested all recycling be placed in plastic garbage bags, and then placed in the separate recycle bin. This is NOT required but is being requested to help contain lightweight material from being blown around, especially on windy days.
Included with every residents standard garbage collection fee is the collection of recyclable consumer waste every other Tuesday of the month. Area Disposal Services uses the single stream recycle method to process all consumer waste which means you can combine and place all of your recyclable waste including paper, plastics, glass, cans, etc. in the 95 gallon waste container with the green lid.

Battery Recycling
Recycling batteries is important to protect our environment and our health. Each year Americans throw away 84,000 tons of alkaline batteries. Batteries make up 20% of household hazardous waste in landfills. When batteries are crushed and degrade, chemicals leak out into landfills, potentially threatening our environment. Using rechargeable batteries cuts down on this waste. You can recycle your lead-acid batteries from vehicles and other motor devices, such as lawn mowers, at any place these batteries are sold. Rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries (alkaline, AAA, AA, C, D, 9-volt, zinc-carbon, zinc-air (used for hearing aids and other small devices), lithium (used for cameras and watches), button cell (watches, calculators, hearing aids), and rechargeable batteries Ni-Cad batteries from McLean County residents can be taken to participating drop off locations. Because this recycling program is funded by the McLean County Solid Waste Fund it is specifically limited to residential waste only, no business waste.

Electronics & Computer Recycling
Did you know 90% of outdated electronics are thrown out with the garbage where they can have a devastating impact on the environment? E-waste is hazardous. Illinois state regulations prohibit most consumer electronic waste disposal in landfills. Although the Village of Hudson does not have their own E-waste recycling program there are many facilities within the Bloomington - Normal area that will accept these items at no charge. Items do not need to be in working condition to be recycled but must be residential waste. These facilities will not accept business or commercial waste.
